I want what I say and do to have meaning and purpose and impact. I want my words and actions to come from core convictions of who I am and the reason I do what I do, defining my life, work, and relationships with others.
I am most passionate about helping others discover who they are and learn to live from that place, wherever they are. After completing my B.S. in Speech-Language Pathology/Audiology and working as a speech therapist in the public school, K-12, I decided to pursue my M.A. in Pastoral Counseling at Columbia International University and learn to care for the hearts of people who are hurting, need hope, and want to move forward in their lives.
At CIU, I worked as Director of University Admissions/Recruitment helping undergraduate and graduate students make decisions about their future while developing a strong team of recruiters who used their strengths and skills to excel, both personally and professionally. My experience in higher education was challenging and rewarding and it’s where my love for strategic leadership, team development, and employee engagement, was born.
Why Life Coaching? Everyone at some point in their lives wants to make a change; they may feel stuck or want to make a major course correction but don’t know how to do it. A good coach can come alongside and challenge, inspire, and offer insight that serves as the tipping point for moving forward, achieving results, and accomplishing goals. Helping others discover and understand their personal uniqueness and experience the abundant life available to them, one of significance and impact, is my life’s work.
Why Leadership Coaching? When I began my job as Director of University Admissions I was overwhelmed and didn’t know what I didn’t know. Thanks to a few others in my life, on the job training, conferences, and a lot of reading on how to be a leader I learned how to lead. I made mistakes and watched others make them, too. There are new leaders who find themselves where I was and seasoned leaders still trying to figure out what the “secret” is to hiring, developing, and keeping star employees who might not know what I didn’t know. I can coach them to success through the people who show up every day to do business for them.
Why Workplace Chaplaincy? I read a quote once, “We hire people for their skills, but the whole person shows up for work.” So true. There is always something else going on in our lives besides our work from 9-5; the loss of a loved one, health issues, relationship strains, separation or divorce, financial problems, a variety of stressors.
Often times, that “something else” is a major distraction and keeps an employee from bringing his or her best to work. Leaders and employers are very busy and don’t usually have the time to stop what they are doing to attend to these very real circumstances in order to keep the business thriving. A Workplace Chaplain can help with that. In the context of relationships with employees, I can help those who need it, when they need it, so people still thrive and so does business.
Life is measured by our little moments. When we speak and act and react, we are essentially creating little moments, when strung together build our life. When we know who we are and why we do what we do, our moments are measured. Our lives are too.
