It’s going to be a great day.
Know how I know?
Because I get to decide how I think about my day.
It’s easier to allow the stress, anxiety, or overwhelm I might wake up with to steer me along and determine all I do today and through the week.
But that won’t get me where I want to be. So I have to choose something else. Something better.
Instead of stress, I choose self-confidence, believing I can handle my circumstances.
Instead of anxiety, I choose peace, believing I will find solutions to problems that present themselves to me.
Instead of overwhelm, I choose focused pacing, believing I will manage each of the various responsibilities I have today, one at a time.
I want those things to direct my behavior today. I choose those. Stress, anxiety, overwhelm and a bunch of other feelings are coming…they always do. It’s ok. I got this.
You do, too.
One last review:
Question #1: What’s going on? (Great question when you notice or experience a thought/feeling you have.)
Question #2: What do I want? (Great question when you need some clarity, direction, or vision for your life.)
Question #3: What’s in the way? (Great question to start getting to the bottom of why things may seem impossible to get what you want.)
And finally,
Question #4: What will it look like when I’m “there?” (Great question so you can shift your focus more toward what you want and what you’ll be experiencing instead!)
We have to have a really clear picture of what we want and what it’s going to look like in our lives when we get it.
- Improved Relationships
- Higher Income
- Weight Loss
- Better Job
- Getting More Done/Productivity
- Emotional Peace
When we can imagine what “it” looks like in our lives, we can stay focused on what we need to do to create it.
AND we’ll recognize it when we’re there. Which will feel amazing!
Let’s look at the obstacles from last week and compare them to what’s possible.
We’ll put them in 2 categories: what’s “easier” and what’s better.
“Easier” |
| Better! |
Negativity |
| Thought Management |
Perfectionism |
| Excellence |
Overwhelm |
| Constraint |
People-Pleasing |
| Loving-Kindness |
Confusion |
| Decision Making |
Procrastination |
| Action/Productivity |
Self-Doubt |
| Self-Confidence |
Imperfection |
| Uniqueness |
Self-Pity |
| Resilience |
The Victim Mentality |
| Vulnerability |
Anxiety |
| Peace |
Failure |
| Learning |
Rejection |
| Acceptance |
Defensiveness |
| Humility |
Avoidance |
| Assertiveness |
Critical Judgementalism |
| Compassionate Understanding |
Control of Others |
| Generosity |
Selfishness |
| Service |
I definitely want my experience to be closer to what’s better. The way to do that is to begin paying a lot more attention to what’s happening in my mind.
What I think drives everything else. Every time.
It does for you, too.
Learning how to feel better, do better, get better:
Question #1: “What’s going on?” (What am I thinking/feeling?)
Question #2: What do I want?
Question #3: What’s in the way?
Question #4: What will it look like when I’m “there?”
We have to always be examining our own mind, looking at what we are thinking, because that is going to be the start of identifying the obstacles.
We have to have a really clear picture of what we want and where we want to be; that place that’s different, and better, from where we are right now.
We have to identify obstacles in the way, keeping us from that place we want to be.
We stay aware of this to keep moving forward and then enjoy it once we are experiencing it!
Question #1 is the most important. And the one to begin asking yourself most regularly.
Question #1 will be the question that moves us away from “easier” and closer to what’s better.
Have fun with your questions!
You’ll be amazed at what you discover when you begin cultivating the very good habit of paying attention to your own life and mind.
